– Big barbecues
Even though the polar vortex didn’t affect Florida, plenty of brides are planning on big barbecues for their wedding days. It’s a fun and carefree way to eat, drink, and be merry. Plus, who doesn’t love a big, over-the-top barbecue? Weddings don’t always need fancy foods and having barbecue stations for everyone to enjoy is a surefire way to win. Continue reading →
You’ve been planning this wedding since you were a little girl…… then for 12 months you painstakingly planned out the details of your color palette, shoes, tried on countless wedding dresses, a handful of makeup trials, and now you are just waiting in anticipation for the date to arrive. A few days before the wedding your skin starts to break out and dry out……. SERIOUSLY??? Here are a few tips to help guide you towards radiant skin on your wedding day.
Showering or Bathing – It is even better if you can do so twice a day, at morning upon waking up make sure to drink a lot of water. It will boost your immune system! and in the evening before going to bed. Soap-free facial or body wash and water offer one easy way to cleanse your skin. Alternatively, choose a specially formulated facial cleanser from your favorite brand range. Follow the instructions it provides. Always use a soft sponge or face washer to avoid harming your delicate facial skin. If your skin is sensitive try only taking a shower every other day or every few days. This lets your natural oils nourish your skin. Showering too much with sensitive skin can cause irritation.
Exfoliate weekly – In general, a weekly exfoliation will remove dead skin cells and buff the skin back into good condition. Removal of all the dirt, oil build-up and dead cells will leave your skin feeling baby soft. If you have sensitive skin, exfoliate twice a month.
Daily Moisturizer – Especially AFTER you shower or bathe. Your skin not only needs more moisture, but moisture right after you wash. Applying moisture to damp skin helps seal that dampness into the skin. Keep a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at every sink and use generously every time you wash. Products with plant stem cells can not only soften but also turn back time with your skin, especially on your face.
Clean your makeup brushes – How often do you clean your makeup brushes? (Your probably thinking…. I don’t actually). Dirt, grime and oils left in the brushes can cause evil zits and breakouts, causing your base skin to get worse. Lucky for you, they are simple to clean yourself using a bar of soap.
Eat clean – Turns out your personal trainer knew what he was talking about — you really are what you eat, and your skin may be a perfect reflection of your inner health. A healthy diet with ample beauty super foods can enhance skin texture, hydration, firmness and smoothness. I suggest a diet of foods rich in:
I’ve decided to start reviewing some of these diamond retailers from time to time to help guide you when it comes to finding the special ring for your engagement or wedding day. Today I am starting with JamesAllen.com.
When shopping for an engagement or wedding ring one of the things to remember is that this ring will be with you for a lifetime. Shopping online for a ring can take some of the mystique out of the experience, but you are more likely to find exactly what you want than if you look locally. Nothing quite beats trying on that ring and falling in love with it in person, this is well known by jewelers, and if you are willing to forego the fantasy of walking into an overpriced shop like Tiffany’s then shopping online may be just the thing to do if you want to find that perfect ring.
James Allen has done a pretty good job with their website. They have attempted rather successfully to make the experience as easy as possible. In comparison with DeBeers the website is much easier to navigate. I will admit I got lost, even drooling a bit Continue reading →
In 2013, variety is the new catch of the day. As you know, many wedding dresses don’t feature the shoe unless the bride wants them to be seen. In the past many brides have worn simple flats or even white sandals to ensure comfort. This year, is the year of the bold bride that likes to add a dash of bold style to her somewhat traditional ceremony. Today I will list the top 10 wedding shoe trends for 2013:
Pink Heels – Many women first started planning out their perfect wedding when they were even a child. The pink bridal heeled shoes lets a woman declare her of love of the simple girly things in life and yet still be proud to call herself an independent woman.
Custom printed shoes – Thanks to the improvements in technology today, made heeled wedding shoes can have your favorite print, or even something symbolic or sentimental printed on them.
Mint – Hot color of the year. This is the hot color of 2013 and seem to be found throughout numerous wedding magazines and fashion runways. A little hint of mint adds crispness and a light dash of color to any color palette.
Custom decorated vintage wedding heels – With places like Etsy now very popluar you can easily find the perfect shoes and get it custom tailored to your exact specification including adding delicate vintage lace or retro styles to it. Continue reading →
The time has come. You’ve either decided to propose your girlfriend for a life together or thinking about it. What do you do now? First thing to do is to buy a diamond engagement ring, a ring that shows your love for her.
Since people are inclined towards engagement rings, we highlight the engagement ring purchase options to help you through.
I’ve attended weddings before that had gorgeous flower arrangements hanging on the inside row of the aisle of chairs that the bride would walk down. Then about 15 minutes before the wedding I noticed people & children were bumping them and knocking them on the ground. This seems to takes away from the beauty of the ceremony doesn’t it? What if Continue reading →

Imagine your guests having a day shopping in Paris before the wedding, feeling a bit shilly in the paved streets and inevitably attracted to all the lovely shops and restaurants looking so warm and comfortable from the outside. Also, Paris offers many venues with breathtaking views that can be enjoyed through beautiful windows in the warmth of a dining room.
Of course, I was born an raised in the Southeast and prefer wedding in locations like Atlanta, GA, New Orleans, LA, and Miami, FL. Their is such a southern charm to these location and a feel of the old south. If you are looking for some nice Atlanta Wedding venue I would checkout the 200 peachtree website. Every bride-to-be runs into a wedding planning flub or two, but the trick is to make sure you bounce back the minute you encounter one of these pesky bumps in the road. Here are some common wedding planning flubs and how to avoid them.
Wedding planning flubs are a nuisance, and every bride runs into one or another at some point during the wedding planning game. You’ve secured your ceremony and reception locations. You’ve booked all your vendors. You’ve even found your dress. But then the unthinkable happens—you run into a wedding planning flub that threatens to throw a kink in the whole wedding planning process. Not to worry! Check out the following wedding planning flubs and how to avoid them so you can tackle the problem the moment it arises:
You lose/gain a few inches in between dress fitting appointments—Between stress, new diets, and different exorcise routines, it’s not uncommon for brides to gain or lose a few inches during the wedding planning process. If this happens, don’t panic. The seamstress can usually take in your wedding gown to accommodate the inches you lost easier than letting it out to account for gained inches. Either way, if the change is drastic, your seamstress or dress maker can figure out a way to alter your gown accordingly. For tricky customization in the event of excess weight gain or loss, though, be prepared to pay more in the way of alteration fees.
You have to change the menu items at the last minute—Whether you learn that many of your guests have similar food allergies or the caterer cannot get their hands on the materials for your dish of choice before the big day, there are many reasons you might have to change menu items at the last minute. If this is the case, meet with your caterer and plan an alternative that still offers the flavor and presentation you want. The changes might involve something as simple as substituting a spice or type of cheese.
You send invitations out too late—If you order your invites too late or push your luck and send them out too late, consider dropping everyone on your list a line to let them know the invitation is on its way and thank them for their RSVP courtesy on such short notice. Sending out invitations at the last minute is one of the most common wedding planning flubs brides run into, but the situation can usually be easily remedied.
You forget the favors—You need to wait for your RSVP’s before ordering favors and then before you know it, your wedding is right around the corner. That’s ok! There are tons of great options that arrive in a week. Personalized favors that can be found and delivered within 2 weeks! It’s a small world. Take some time to browse, you will be surprised the options you will find.
The key is not to worry and get all Bridezilla. Stay calm. These flubs tend to have a way of working themselves out.
Sometimes brides decide NOT to cancel their outdoor wedding and just persevere through the rain. If you do, bad things can happen. BUT you can at least make some wonderful memories in the process and perhaps become playful in the mud. In fact, many older cultures on this planet take rain on your wedding day as a sign of good luck. Rain brings water to dry places, and causes crops to flourish. You can see why it’s viewed as being a blessing and bringing good luck.
Redwing boots are the perfect men’s workwear boot. You can find dozens of these boots at www.davesnewyork.com for affordable prices! Of course, do you really want to wear boots to a wedding day if it just sprinkles? Just tell your bride that rain is symbolic for blessings, cleansing, unity, and a new day. If she wants to have children, remind her that rain is also a sign of fertility and new life. Rain helps things grow and become something new and better.
So if the weatherman predicts heavy participation on your blissful day remember the old French saying, “Mariage pluvieux, marriage heureux“, which promises a happy marriage as a result of a wet wedding. And if you don’t buy into the idea that rain is lucky, there is always the old standby: Rain, rain, go away – come again another day! Of course your guests probably won’t come back if you reschedule the last minute. Even if they try to do some comparison shopping for airline rates, last minute flights are ALWAYS expensive.
I knew better than to get into the wedding industry but when I started my catering operation it just made the most sense. People who do weddings spend a
lot of money on food and if you’re not doing those kinds of events you’re really not going to survive very long in this business. After my first couple of brides, who were totally easy, I decided to expand that side of things and get ever more involved. Big mistake! I made my office bigger and got business phone service
packages and hired two servers part time but you know, somewhere along the way I got branded as “the wedding guy” and that’s where it all went downhill. People are just crazy when it comes to wedding food and on that day in particular and I can’t believe that after so many weddings I still get yelled at. I knew what I was getting into, though, so I guess I can’t really complain about it at the end of the day. IT’s more money, at least!
Nobody told me working in a hospital would be glamorous and I knew a medical career wouldn’t allow me to wear beautiful 5 inch heels. I guessed I envied my younger sister going to work each day in her designer suits and dresses. I just always believed wardrobes, outfits, even uniforms should reflect personalities. Wearing the same dull blue scrubs clothing as all the other doctors in the hospital did little for my belief that looking good made you feel good, in fact the best part of the day would be clocking off after shifts to change into my glamorous and feminine clothes and pretty shoes.
My weakness was clothes and fashion and the thought of dressing the same as everyone else in dull scrubs almost put me off during training. I thought I would always resent my uniform and despise dressing in the same dull outfit each day.
It wasn’t until I met Jasmine the new girl at work that I realised she seemed to have broke the mould with her scrubs. She caught my attention straight away with her floral scrubs and brightly colored scrub hats. Where on earth had she bought fashionable and feminine scrubs from? Strangely enough even in scrubs it looked like she was wearing a different uniform. She told me about a company that specialised in making scrubs for men and women who like me didn’t want to conform to the dull traditional scrubs that had for so long dominated the medical profession uniform. So there I was all of Tuesday night on http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Women/ searching for a new uniform that would help me stand out of the dreariness of the standard issues blue scrubs I had grown to loathe. Now I am not saying me and Jasmine sub consciously compete against each other for most fashionable doctor each day (even Milan, Italy scrubs couldn’t do that) but I certainly feel prettier and more feminine at work now knowing I can choose the designs and colours I wear into work. I have even noticed the designer scrubs wearing off on a lot of the new young guys too which is definitely not a bad thing!
I remember on the week of my wedding my fiance finally broke down and got something for his groomsman. He ended up getting them an antique pocket watch that we both knew nobody would ever actually use.
Their are more useful watches for guys out there. For example compass watches. Sometimes your Iphone 4 doesn’t know which way you are facing when walking. A compass watch is more accurate about telling you which direction is north or south vs your iPhone.
What about those guys that are military or at least like to play Call of Duty on their Xbox 360’s. What about a Timex military watch? Then when they are playing Xbox on live or out in the woods playing paintball, their groomsman gift will actually be useful for them. When was the last time you saw a man in his 20’s with a pocket watch?
Most groomsman typically attended college with the groom. In that case buy something that brings back memories of the old college days when all of you were single. Buy them college logo watch. For example, the nevada watch is both a nice stainless steel watch AND has your college logo. I’m sure that would bring back memories of how many times you ran off to Las Vegas when you should have been studying for those difficult exams.
Anyway you look at it, watches make great gifts for men. Another option would be to buy some Rolex replicas and make them think they are real. That only works if you have a well paying job though.
Since you were a teenage girl you’ve been pulling lip glosses out of your purse and swiping them on without even thinking. Your love affair with gloss was natural; it just felt so right.
And then things started to change. You wanted more. Like heroine to an addict you needed more. Lip Gloss just would not do anymore. You even started fantasizing about bringing home that ruby red lipstick you spotted in the cosmetics section of Cover Girl at Wal-Mart. You fell to your cravings and started buying lipstick, BUT your mom never really showed you the way. Now your wedding day is approaching and you want that perfect look that will knock your husband to be on his knees all over again.
If this is something you understand, then here are 3 tips to help shock your new husband into submission:
1st Falsehood: Lipstick will accentuate “flaws”
Some women shy away from lipstick because they assume it will accentuate perceived lip flaws such as wrinkles and dryness. And while lipgloss is the worst culprit when it comes to falling between the cracks of your lips, a bit of preparation is all one needs to ensure that lipstick goes on smoothly and doesn’t head south.
Start by caring for lips nightly with a light exfoliating treatment and application of moisturizer. For exfoliation: you can make a sugar scrub at home by combining a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of water. Follow up exfoliation with an application of hydrating lip treatment. In the morning, slick on a coat of moisturizer before you begin your makeup routine. Allow it to sink in while you apply your other makeup first and then blot lips before applying lip primer, lip liner and lipstick.
2nd Falsehood: Lipstick is too bold for sunshine
Some women eschew lipstick for fear it is just too much for daytime wear. I suppose if your days are destined to be dull and void of color, this could be true. Otherwise, it’s how makeup is combined that really makes it “too much.”
3rd Falsehood: The color is short lived
Assuming lips are prepped in advance, begin by applying a lip base to enhance lipstick wear and banish color bleeding.
Lip liner is a must. If you don’t have the matching liner, opt for a neutral shade.
Experts always seem to recommend applying lip liner first, but novices know that leads to chalky, overdrawn lip lines. I recommend applying one coat of lipstick after the base, and then blotting lips. Next, apply lip liner and then reapply lipstick.
If the change from sparkly lips to matte is too much for you, add some shine by dotting a touch of eye shadow in gold or silver to the center of your bottom lip to add shimmer.
Do you want plumper lips like Angelina Jolie? Here’s a tip!
“Using lip liner in a shade slightly darker than your lipstick, overdraw the line (so the line is right outside your lips),” says Revlon consultant , Jody Fisher.
“Apply the lipstick, and then in the center of your lips, blend in a drop of foundation and top it off with a gloss.” Don’t worry about lip lacquer, just stick with the basics.
Anyone else have tips on keeping your lips beautiful for that wedding?
Celebrities everywhere such as Julia Roberts and Kate Hudson can be seen sporting distinctive and fashionable diamond cuts in rings, necklaces, and earrings. Here are a few tips for what to look for in Asscher cut engagement rings.
Before you purchase Asscher cut engagement rings, there are a few qualities you want to look for. First, research a premium jewellery store or appraiser to make sure that the Asscher cut diamond you purchase is of high quality. When looking at Asscher cut engagement rings, you want a diamond with a cut rated at least ‘good’, a colour rating of at least ‘G’, clarity of at least SI2, depth percentage of at least 64-72% and a table of at least 54-63%. What does all this mean, though?
Asscher cut engagement rings should have a cut rating of at least good, meaning that there are minimal flaws in the cutting and the facets are all of uniform shape and size. Asscher cut engagement rings should be colourless or near colourless. A good appraiser will be able to tell you if the Asscher cut engagement rings are a Continue reading →
I’ve heard some arguments for and against the use of a professional makeup artist lately that I thought I would come up with a nice pro and con list for each of these:
Professional wedding makeup artist: Pros
Possible to get it free with makeup purchase of a certain amount
You only use the makeup once, so need to buy special makeup you may never use again
Typically allow some sample trial applications to play with your makeup a little to find that perfect look
TEMPTU AIRbrush Makeup System ($225) is a lightweight system that lets you spray on concealer, blush, bronzer, or highlighter. It gives you a flawless, fresh, and dewy look. You can even use it all over your body. Really fast to do….Sephora lets you do a trial of this stuff..
If you buy a wedding package sometimes it includes the professional makeup as part of it
If you never wear makeup this will add that extra surprise to the groom and obviously you shouldn’t attempt your first makeup application at your wedding
You can use a makeover as a gift to your bridesmaids as part of your package
Professional wedding makeup artist: Cons
Price can range from $60-$100
If you’re not famaliar with the makeup artist they could do your makeup wrong and still have to pay
Do it yourself wedding makeup: Pros
Like Chelsea Clinton, you could keep it real simple and opt to not wear any makeup. Especially if you have a great skincare regimen and your skin looks great anyway like hers.
When my husband and I got married almost 12 years ago platinum and titanium bands were becoming pretty popular. These rings have had their heyday but I’m noticing a comeback in the white gold diamond rings for men again.
Their are cheaper offerings online made with a bare minimum amount of gold, which makes resizing rings more difficult and can actually damage the jewelry when attempted. I know this first hand after buying a white gold ring in Alaska on a cruise, once the ring was resized it looked horrible.
Grooms today prefer white gold to platinum because of its durability and affordability. White gold also retains its value longer than silver. Of course local jewelrs are having more of a challenge with the broad selection of the Internet from Continue reading →
I was just thinking about this the other day after reading an article online. You can buy insurance on your wedding ring or engagement ring, insurance for that honeymoon cruise in case a hurricane blows through, and insurance on the tuxes for the wedding. Why not buy wedding insurance on the entire event? Now remember, this doesn’t cover the bride or groom “backing out” of the wedding. This covers other things that are out of your control so you could actually get your money back.
I discovered this website called my-weddinginsurace.co.uk that can cover the following items, I created a list of what a basic wedding policy ($30) from them can cover, they have more expensive ones that can Continue reading →
Before I get to this list, want to share a way you could some items off the list. Just found out on twitter about a contest at http://www.supimalastingmoments.com/. You can enter in their contest for a chance to win some Fieldcrest luxury premium towels. I’m sure all of us have our favorite towels. My husband and I splurged about 4 years ago on some high end towels that could only be used by us. Our children get good quality towels but ours are extrememly soft and big. Here’s some quick details about these Fieldcrest towels.
Made of 100% Premium Supima Cotton for Maximum Absorbency, Loft and Durability
Rich Assorted Colors
Machine Wash, Tumble Dry
Sizes – Bath 58×30; Hand 30×16; Wash 13×13 “
Also seems like the reviews on them have come back pretty positive over at Target – “These towels are so soft and after numerous washings, still look new. Have a wonderful expensive look to them and I need to go back to buy a few more! If you want to know the full contest rules check this out.
When getting married there are definately a few things you should pay a premium for. In fact I’ve compiled a list:
Top 10 things you need to buy after the honeymoon:
1. Soft Luxorious towels for your daily baths or shower
2. High end, 2000+ thread count egyptcian cotton sheets for your bed and pillowcase.
3. Memory foam mattress (or topper) for the little sleep you find time for in the first few months.
4. His and her power toothbrushes
5. DVR from Tivo or your local cable/dish network so you never argue over shows missed or games.
6. A cellphone plan that works best for your needs as a permanent couple with free mobile to mobile minutes and unlimited texting.
7. A calender, to lay out plans for your next vacation and private getaways. (It’s good to let the honeymoon set a tone on what kind of vacations your spouse will expect for the future)
8. Caller ID, so you can avoid phone calls from the mother-in-law or others when necessary.
9. Large bottles of cologne and perfume to ensure you always smell desirable to your partner.
10. Buy some equipment for your hobbies so you can share that passion with each other. It could be a tennis racket, a mountain bike, running shoes, a guitar, etc. Couples that play together, stay together.
You have any other suggestions on what a couple should buy? Let us know.
Was browsing around yesterday looking for the coming trends in 2010 and ran across a wedding coordinator website titled “Planning Elegance”. These guys are one of many San Francisco Wedding Planners but they seem to not just sell their services. Great tips and advice can be found throughout their website and coordinated Wedding Blog. They had a great article on the top 5 wedding dress trends for 2010. My favorite one mentioned was wedding dresses that offer a hint of color in red. What a great way to highlight a favorite color of the brides or bring in that special something to help make your wedding more memorable?
Here’s a wedding dress with a hint of red to it. What do you think? Do you think the editorial staff at Brides.com would feature it in their spread?
After finding this dress I was inspired to find a nice matching wedding planning board in red & white. The first theme that pops up with these colors is naturally Christmas, Valentine’s, even 4th of July BUT you can find many other ways to integrate a red hint of color in your wedding without it feeling like a holiday festival. It took me about 15 minutes to find a red wedding inspiration board that didn’t involve a holiday so I hope the following board inspires you. Continue reading →
After being married and hearing the different reasons wives take off their wedding rings I wanted to write a post about it, regarding etiquette. Most of the time I take my rings off when doing dishes, putting lotion on, or when I put my gloves on to do some yardwork or gardening (just feel weird in the glove). I have met people that swear they will never take their ring off, haven’t in 30 years, and it seems the ring has become permanenetly part of their finger (actually they’ve gained weight and the ring would not come off without surgical removal). This is what I’ve found on the subject.
The best advice is to first choose a wedding ring you love and won’t mind wearing all the time. It doesn’t have to be a perfect match with your engagement ring. You can choose to wear your wedding ring and engagement ring together on your left hand; wear your wedding band on the left and engagement ring on your right; or just wear your wedding ring. (Many women choose not to wear their engagement rings all the time simply because their setting could snag on clothing, among other reasons). If you really love your engagement ring, you should wear both rings. That way, you can still show off your engagement ring, and your happily wedded status.
Others just wear their wedding ring because they hope to keep the engagemet ring to pass on to their daughter or as an heirloom in the family. Of course, once your husband has spent that much on an engagement ring you may want the world to always see it. Some opt to only wear their engagement ring because it has a fat rock on it and they want people to know how rich their husband is doing…….anyway….. Continue reading →
