With the 2020 hurricane season becoming one of the most active in recorded history, it’s time to breakdown the proper way to cancel if and when a hurricane causes you this unforgettable memory. Let’s talk about what you need to do and in what order.
A hurricane is just as unpredictable as a wildfire can be in California or tornadoes in Oklahoma…… Remember that your wedding day luck is not a reflection of what your marriage will be like. Just think of all the weddings canceled in 2020 from the coronavirus pandemic. This kind of unpredicted event is truly a test of the vows, “for better or for worse”.
2. LET THE GUESTS KNOW ASAP
Many of your guests will have made lodging plans with Airbnb or through services like Expedia, Hotwire, Priceline, or TripAdvisor. Most of these include an extenuating circumstance clause for hurricanes and such but some do not. The sooner your guests can notify the companies the higher chance they have for a full or partial refund. This also applies to flights and rental cars and such.
If you said “yes” in 2018, no doubt you’re looking forward to 2019 to say, “I do.” Have you picked your wedding venue yet? It’s not too late, but you’d better hurry to snap up these wedding venue trends for 2019 before every other bride-to-be does!
– Big barbecues
Even though the polar vortex didn’t affect Florida, plenty of brides are planning on big barbecues for their wedding days. It’s a fun and carefree way to eat, drink, and be merry. Plus, who doesn’t love a big, over-the-top barbecue? Weddings don’t always need fancy foods and having barbecue stations for everyone to enjoy is a surefire way to win. Continue reading →
I’ve attended more than my fair share of weddings throughout the southeast over the years. Sadly, only as a guest most often and a few bridesmaid situations but never as the bride. These events were in locales that varied from beaches, to ornate historic churches, to mountainside retreats, and other various locations. My favorite recent wedding was down in a little town in Laurel Hill FL over in the Florida PanHandle called “The Barn at Water Oaks“. Unlucky for me, my phone was at 7% to start for the morning so I didn’t take any photos that day. The 400 guest barn wedding venue is only 1 hour away from the popular Destin, FL beach destination and 10 minutes away from the relaxing Lake town of Florala, AL. I can imagine this would keep most guests happy to consider this a vacation wedding!!
I have selected this venue as the “Best Wedding Venue of the Southeast for 2017“. They have earned it and I hope they continue to add on and provide 5 star service to their guests!!
Let’s talk about what perks this place has: Unlike other wedding barns in the Southeast this location allows up to 400 guests to be in the indoor/reception area with either air conditioning or heat. I’m sure if you are familiar with “barn” type venues having the ability to climate control is of substantial importance. If it decides to rain on your wedding day, they’ve got you “covered” without Continue reading →
You’ve been planning this wedding since you were a little girl…… then for 12 months you painstakingly planned out the details of your color palette, shoes, tried on countless wedding dresses, a handful of makeup trials, and now you are just waiting in anticipation for the date to arrive. A few days before the wedding your skin starts to break out and dry out……. SERIOUSLY??? Here are a few tips to help guide you towards radiant skin on your wedding day.
Showering or Bathing – It is even better if you can do so twice a day, at morning upon waking up make sure to drink a lot of water. It will boost your immune system! and in the evening before going to bed. Soap-free facial or body wash and water offer one easy way to cleanse your skin. Alternatively, choose a specially formulated facial cleanser from your favorite brand range. Follow the instructions it provides. Always use a soft sponge or face washer to avoid harming your delicate facial skin. If your skin is sensitive try only taking a shower every other day or every few days. This lets your natural oils nourish your skin. Showering too much with sensitive skin can cause irritation.
Exfoliate weekly – In general, a weekly exfoliation will remove dead skin cells and buff the skin back into good condition. Removal of all the dirt, oil build-up and dead cells will leave your skin feeling baby soft. If you have sensitive skin, exfoliate twice a month.
Daily Moisturizer – Especially AFTER you shower or bathe. Your skin not only needs more moisture, but moisture right after you wash. Applying moisture to damp skin helps seal that dampness into the skin. Keep a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at every sink and use generously every time you wash. Products with plant stem cells can not only soften but also turn back time with your skin, especially on your face.
Clean your makeup brushes – How often do you clean your makeup brushes? (Your probably thinking…. I don’t actually). Dirt, grime and oils left in the brushes can cause evil zits and breakouts, causing your base skin to get worse. Lucky for you, they are simple to clean yourself using a bar of soap.
Eat clean – Turns out your personal trainer knew what he was talking about — you really are what you eat, and your skin may be a perfect reflection of your inner health. A healthy diet with ample beauty super foods can enhance skin texture, hydration, firmness and smoothness. I suggest a diet of foods rich in:
A good friend of mine, Staci, recently celebrated her 15th wedding anniversary out in San Francisco at the Forest Hill Club House. She was trying to keep her costs low and debated on hiring a wedding planner. She actually does a number of custom cakes for weddings all the time so she decided to forego the cost of a wedding planner and let her good logistics friend, Angelina, handle some of the details.
Angelina and I talked on the phone a few times and decided there was a few things that we wanted to make sure went right – a good DJ, a solid caterer, and an amazing photographer. Her original wedding had the worst photographer of all time, no music or dancing (which she loves) and the food was made by her mom. Based on the stories that Staci has told me in the past I knew what she was really looking for.
When it comes to food, Staci has always planned her vacations around restaurants and food anywhere she has traveled. She is a bit of a foodie and loves new things so I decided that we needed of the reputable Bay Area wedding caterers, and TasteCatering.com fit the bill just perfectly.
I’ve decided to start reviewing some of these diamond retailers from time to time to help guide you when it comes to finding the special ring for your engagement or wedding day. Today I am starting with JamesAllen.com.
When shopping for an engagement or wedding ring one of the things to remember is that this ring will be with you for a lifetime. Shopping online for a ring can take some of the mystique out of the experience, but you are more likely to find exactly what you want than if you look locally. Nothing quite beats trying on that ring and falling in love with it in person, this is well known by jewelers, and if you are willing to forego the fantasy of walking into an overpriced shop like Tiffany’s then shopping online may be just the thing to do if you want to find that perfect ring.
James Allen has done a pretty good job with their website. They have attempted rather successfully to make the experience as easy as possible. In comparison with DeBeers the website is much easier to navigate. I will admit I got lost, even drooling a bit Continue reading →
In 2013, variety is the new catch of the day. As you know, many wedding dresses don’t feature the shoe unless the bride wants them to be seen. In the past many brides have worn simple flats or even white sandals to ensure comfort. This year, is the year of the bold bride that likes to add a dash of bold style to her somewhat traditional ceremony. Today I will list the top 10 wedding shoe trends for 2013:
Pink Heels – Many women first started planning out their perfect wedding when they were even a child. The pink bridal heeled shoes lets a woman declare her of love of the simple girly things in life and yet still be proud to call herself an independent woman.
Custom printed shoes – Thanks to the improvements in technology today, made heeled wedding shoes can have your favorite print, or even something symbolic or sentimental printed on them.
Mint – Hot color of the year. This is the hot color of 2013 and seem to be found throughout numerous wedding magazines and fashion runways. A little hint of mint adds crispness and a light dash of color to any color palette.
Custom decorated vintage wedding heels – With places like Etsy now very popluar you can easily find the perfect shoes and get it custom tailored to your exact specification including adding delicate vintage lace or retro styles to it. Continue reading →
The time has come. You’ve either decided to propose your girlfriend for a life together or thinking about it. What do you do now? First thing to do is to buy a diamond engagement ring, a ring that shows your love for her.
Since people are inclined towards engagement rings, we highlight the engagement ring purchase options to help you through.
When I started this humble blog years ago who would have thought I would have nearly half a million people drop by to visit me and read my thoughts. Now that I have established a large following averaging 12-15K visitors monthly I would love to offer retailers & vendors a chance to advertise with me.
The main banner ad 125 x 230 on our right navigation will soon be available at $100 monthly or $950 a year if interested. I will be adding no more than six 125 x 125 graphic ads for much less at $25 a month or $250 yearly. If interested in a something other than this or a creative partnership or sweepstakes please contact me at weddingnoise (at) gmail.com. Look forward to hearing from you.
I just read a post about a 29 yr old man in Florida that tried to make his fiancee swallow her diamond engagement ring because she no longer wanted to live with him. Not only did he do this, he tried to do it while she had a 1 yr old in her arms at the time.
Let’s get to the heart of this. This “man”, according to this article, physically assaulted his fiance and tried to use an engagement ring as the weapon to choke her. He then has the audacity to say, “women always claim assault, but never accept responsibility for provoking someone,” according to deputies. You CAN NOT provoke someone to assault you and break the law. You CAN lose your temper and take out your anger inappropriately in a way that is considered domestic violence.
Speaking of domestic violence in the home in front of children, I recently came across a comment from an organization titled “Children of Domestic Violence” that speaks on the impact of children just witnessing domestic violence. One surprising statistic they brought up was that 63% of all boys, age 11-20, who commit murder kill the man who was abusing their mother. These kind of statistics scare me and we must do something.
We must stop men like this from perpetuating the cycle of violence and educate the children so they learn NOT to repeat what they see.
I’ve attended weddings before that had gorgeous flower arrangements hanging on the inside row of the aisle of chairs that the bride would walk down. Then about 15 minutes before the wedding I noticed people & children were bumping them and knocking them on the ground. This seems to takes away from the beauty of the ceremony doesn’t it? What if Continue reading →
So many couples look for a memorable place to get married somewhere in the world. France has plenty of popular wedding venues to pick from, the Eiffel Tower being the most popular. Of course, Paris has some beautiful locations that also allow your guests to enjoy the nearby tourist spots. Imagine your guests having a day shopping in Paris before the wedding, feeling a bit shilly in the paved streets and inevitably attracted to all the lovely shops and restaurants looking so warm and comfortable from the outside. Also, Paris offers many venues with breathtaking views that can be enjoyed through beautiful windows in the warmth of a dining room.
Of course, I was born an raised in the Southeast and prefer wedding in locations like Atlanta, GA, New Orleans, LA, and Miami, FL. Their is such a southern charm to these location and a feel of the old south. If you are looking for some nice Atlanta Wedding venue I would checkout the 200 peachtree website. I also bet that you will get married at a location that is on some kind of peach street. (Atlanta has over 60 streets with the name peach in them).
Here are some little known facts about French marriages. The legal age of consent is 18 and IF you get divorced you must wait 300 days before you can remarry. Makes sense to me!! Hope this blog has assisted you in finding that perfect spot in France for your future wedding!!
Every bride-to-be runs into a wedding planning flub or two, but the trick is to make sure you bounce back the minute you encounter one of these pesky bumps in the road. Here are some common wedding planning flubs and how to avoid them.
Wedding planning flubs are a nuisance, and every bride runs into one or another at some point during the wedding planning game. You’ve secured your ceremony and reception locations. You’ve booked all your vendors. You’ve even found your dress. But then the unthinkable happens—you run into a wedding planning flub that threatens to throw a kink in the whole wedding planning process. Not to worry! Check out the following wedding planning flubs and how to avoid them so you can tackle the problem the moment it arises:
You lose/gain a few inches in between dress fitting appointments—Between stress, new diets, and different exorcise routines, it’s not uncommon for brides to gain or lose a few inches during the wedding planning process. If this happens, don’t panic. The seamstress can usually take in your wedding gown to accommodate the inches you lost easier than letting it out to account for gained inches. Either way, if the change is drastic, your seamstress or dress maker can figure out a way to alter your gown accordingly. For tricky customization in the event of excess weight gain or loss, though, be prepared to pay more in the way of alteration fees.
You have to change the menu items at the last minute—Whether you learn that many of your guests have similar food allergies or the caterer cannot get their hands on the materials for your dish of choice before the big day, there are many reasons you might have to change menu items at the last minute. If this is the case, meet with your caterer and plan an alternative that still offers the flavor and presentation you want. The changes might involve something as simple as substituting a spice or type of cheese.
You send invitations out too late—If you order your invites too late or push your luck and send them out too late, consider dropping everyone on your list a line to let them know the invitation is on its way and thank them for their RSVP courtesy on such short notice. Sending out invitations at the last minute is one of the most common wedding planning flubs brides run into, but the situation can usually be easily remedied.
You forget the favors—You need to wait for your RSVP’s before ordering favors and then before you know it, your wedding is right around the corner. That’s ok! There are tons of great options that arrive in a week. Personalized favors that can be found and delivered within 2 weeks! It’s a small world. Take some time to browse, you will be surprised the options you will find.
The key is not to worry and get all Bridezilla. Stay calm. These flubs tend to have a way of working themselves out.
Today’s wedding break out of the traditiona. Need some ideas on current fashion, check out some fashion blogs on the net. When you decide to get married while on horseback you need to think of a couple of things first:
(Photo below by James Hazelwood of Kate Taylor riding her horse. Read more about her life at lucysquest.blogspot.com)
Is their a stable on the property of your venue?
Does your venue even allow horses on the property?
What color/breed of horse do you want?
How experienced are you as a rider? Do you need some lessons to get comfortable again?
Make sure your dress is properly seated so it is no stepped on or pooped on.
Make sure you practice your entrance and exit in full dress before the actual wedding. Practice allows you to think of things you might never have imagined if you had not done it.
Ride the horse at least once that you will be using on your wedding day so you are familiar with each other.
Find a photographer that is gifted at shooting horses and you should be fine for the wedding.
Suggestions for the logistics of the horse wedding. I would suggest just the bride come in on the horse, dismount, then get married while standing. This prevents numerous variables from happening including kicking of the wedding guests in the face, the awkward moment while the horse is pooping during the ceremony, and that moment when the horse decides to eat something it should not.
Now if you need some stylish equastrian clothes for sale for your reception gear, then hop to it. Who says you need to wear a trraditional white dress in the reception. Have some fun with it.
Sometimes brides decide NOT to cancel their outdoor wedding and just persevere through the rain. If you do, bad things can happen. BUT you can at least make some wonderful memories in the process and perhaps become playful in the mud. In fact, many older cultures on this planet take rain on your wedding day as a sign of good luck. Rain brings water to dry places, and causes crops to flourish. You can see why it’s viewed as being a blessing and bringing good luck.
Redwing boots are the perfect men’s workwear boot. You can find dozens of these boots at www.davesnewyork.com for affordable prices! Of course, do you really want to wear boots to a wedding day if it just sprinkles? Just tell your bride that rain is symbolic for blessings, cleansing, unity, and a new day. If she wants to have children, remind her that rain is also a sign of fertility and new life. Rain helps things grow and become something new and better.
So if the weatherman predicts heavy participation on your blissful day remember the old French saying, “Mariage pluvieux, marriage heureux“, which promises a happy marriage as a result of a wet wedding. And if you don’t buy into the idea that rain is lucky, there is always the old standby: Rain, rain, go away – come again another day! Of course your guests probably won’t come back if you reschedule the last minute. Even if they try to do some comparison shopping for airline rates, last minute flights are ALWAYS expensive.
Do you remember some of the gifts you got when you got married….. I remember very few of them. I know that when I was creating a wedding registry I really wasn’t being practical. I was living in a dream world and just scanning everything that caught my eye. If I had that scanner 1 year AFTER my wedding I would have picked items differently.
One great way to help out a newlywed couple is to just give them cash. At least they can make a better honeymoon from it. (We both know they are not going to tuck that money into savings for when their firstborn child falls from a tree and breaks his arm in half and has $40,000 worth of surgery…. oh wait… that’s my personal story… I digress….
So anyway, this seems like a pretty smart idea to me… I personally think a Wal-mart gift card is the most useful. Once you have the $900 set of China out and you can’t afford to put Ramen noodles on it, the Wal-mart gift card starts looking really good. Continue reading →
Heidi Klum shocked the world with the announcement that she was splitting from husband of seven years, singer Seal recently. Sadly this news made me think about something…..seal fur. Then I thought about what if a wedding was done in fur instead of the standard materials. Would Heidi and Seal still be together?
Just saying, if she had worn fur they would have been a better “match” for each other. Wow, this post has gone wrong on so many levels. I should respect the whole concept of marriage shouldn’t I? This blog is wedding and engagement noise, not divorce noise…. sorry about that. But I know Continue reading →
When I got married….many, many years ago…… one of husband/s groomsman was definitely in the big and tall category for his suit (He was 6’4″ and about 270 pounds). The tux company ended up shipping something to short and small for him and no replacements. He ended up just wearing a nice pair of black slack from his own closet at the wedding. If we had new about companies like “Mens USA” back then we could have saved all that hassle.
Of course, this blog entry is about a company that helps the big and tall guy AFTER his wedding day. Looking for some great clothes for that husky man from brands like Carhartt, Levis, Dickies, Timberland, and laCrosse, then look no further then G and L clothing for your Big and Tall clothing needs. As with most big and tall stores you expect to track your order easily and hassle free returns if things don’t fit properly. G & L offers all of this with top notch customer service.
When you spend over $100, shipping doesn’t need to be a hassle for you either. Even if your wedding day was lightly messed up from a tuxedo not fitting, the rest of your life should not be the same. Check these guys out.
I knew better than to get into the wedding industry but when I started my catering operation it just made the most sense. People who do weddings spend a
lot of money on food and if you’re not doing those kinds of events you’re really not going to survive very long in this business. After my first couple of brides, who were totally easy, I decided to expand that side of things and get ever more involved. Big mistake! I made my office bigger and got business phone service
packages and hired two servers part time but you know, somewhere along the way I got branded as “the wedding guy” and that’s where it all went downhill. People are just crazy when it comes to wedding food and on that day in particular and I can’t believe that after so many weddings I still get yelled at. I knew what I was getting into, though, so I guess I can’t really complain about it at the end of the day. IT’s more money, at least!
Nobody told me working in a hospital would be glamorous and I knew a medical career wouldn’t allow me to wear beautiful 5 inch heels. I guessed I envied my younger sister going to work each day in her designer suits and dresses. I just always believed wardrobes, outfits, even uniforms should reflect personalities. Wearing the same dull blue scrubs clothing as all the other doctors in the hospital did little for my belief that looking good made you feel good, in fact the best part of the day would be clocking off after shifts to change into my glamorous and feminine clothes and pretty shoes.
My weakness was clothes and fashion and the thought of dressing the same as everyone else in dull scrubs almost put me off during training. I thought I would always resent my uniform and despise dressing in the same dull outfit each day.
It wasn’t until I met Jasmine the new girl at work that I realised she seemed to have broke the mould with her scrubs. She caught my attention straight away with her floral scrubs and brightly colored scrub hats. Where on earth had she bought fashionable and feminine scrubs from? Strangely enough even in scrubs it looked like she was wearing a different uniform. She told me about a company that specialised in making scrubs for men and women who like me didn’t want to conform to the dull traditional scrubs that had for so long dominated the medical profession uniform. So there I was all of Tuesday night on http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Women/ searching for a new uniform that would help me stand out of the dreariness of the standard issues blue scrubs I had grown to loathe. Now I am not saying me and Jasmine sub consciously compete against each other for most fashionable doctor each day (even Milan, Italy scrubs couldn’t do that) but I certainly feel prettier and more feminine at work now knowing I can choose the designs and colours I wear into work. I have even noticed the designer scrubs wearing off on a lot of the new young guys too which is definitely not a bad thing!
